We recently sat down with Alice, the visionary behind Lanow Coffee & Sauna, to learn more about her inspiration and the story behind this exciting new coffee experience in Newquay.

A Coffee Experience Rooted in Simplicity 

Alice’s vision for Lanow was always rooted in simplicity and a deep love for the Cornish coast.

“It’s uncomplicated, but it’s everything I love. Great coffee, fresh sea air, and a real connection to place. Based in West Pentire at Crantock Bay Holidays, Lanow sits in a spot where the view does most of the talking and the pace naturally slows.”

Built from the Ground Up 

Lanow was a true family project, built from the ground up with care and craftsmanship.

“My incredibly skilled brother converted a 2000 Rice Continental Horse Box over the course of a few months. Between his craftsmanship and my experience in coffee and service, we worked closely to design a space that flows simply, well and works efficiently, even in a small footprint.”

 For Alice, quality in the cup is everything, and that starts with the beans.    

“Being a ‘Cornish Maid’ and running a coffee spot by the sea, with what might just be the best view in Cornwall, feels pretty special! I care deeply about quality and I’m proud to serve coffee from Surface Coffee Roasters. I use the Mahalo House Blend which has a beautiful smooth taste and notes of Hazelnut, Oat, Pecan & Clementine. My go-to order is a flat white, and I love the ritual of making it well, every time!”

The Meaning Behind the Name 

Even the name carries meaning, rooted in the landscape that surrounds it.

“Lanow means “Rising Tide” in Cornish. The name felt naturally at home in West Pentire with views over Crantock Bay where the landscape is constantly changing with the sea. My aim is simple: to create a space where people can enjoy good coffee, beautiful surroundings, and good company.”

From May, Lanow becomes more than just a coffee stop.

With the addition of the sauna joining Lanow in May, Lanow is becoming more than just a coffee stop. It’s a place to pause, reset, and spend time well with others. Whether it’s a quiet morning session, a post-swim warm-up, or an evening unwind as the sun drops, the sauna brings a new layer to the experience. It’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable to slow down, chat, connect, or simply take a moment for themselves. A place that feels welcoming and simple, where locals, visitors and regular faces can naturally come together. The same values sit at the heart of it all: simplicity, quality, and a strong sense of community, shaped by the sea and the people who spend time here.”
